How To Choose A Niche For Your Blog
Let’s start with the important basics:
Why Do I Need To Choose A Blog Niche?
Choose a blog niche… but why? Can’t I just write about everything I want to write about? I thought that’s what a blog represents.
This one is probably one of the most popular questions and misconceptions among the beginners.
The truth is – You can write about anything you want to but…
Not a lot of people are going to read your blog in case it’s full of articles about random topics that have nothing to do with one another.
Let’s be honest – That only works for high-profile celebrities that have nothing to prove and have the loyal fan-base no matter what they do.
But, unless you are one of those celebrities, you need to choose a blog niche and be specific about your topic.
That way, your visitors can connect with your topic first and then, hopefully, with you as well.
What’s Wrong With Broad Non-Niche Blogs?
As I already mentioned, your visitors need to feel that your blog is representing the content that they are interested in.
“This blog is so for me” is the reaction you want to trigger in each and every one of your visitors.
That’s why it is important to stick to a specific niche.
Imagine a person visiting a blog which is about “everything”.
Even though your visitor might’ve liked your article, there’s no automatic intuitive hope that there might be other articles about that specific topic.
You just don’t seem to be specializing in that particular subject and can’t build an instant authority.
Now imagine a person visits an article on your blog that is specifically, 100% about weight loss.
Both, your article and your blog are about weight loss.
This fact makes your visitor think that this blog is full of the content about weight loss, therefore it’s a great idea to explore other articles, pages, subscribe etc.
“the author of this blog obviously knows a lot about this topic, why else would it be centralized around this niche?”
Instant authority.
Niche Vs THE NICHE (Advice For Beginners)
This one is optional but truly important, especially for the beginners.
I always advise beginners to keep it simple:
You need to focus on one thing at a time, especially at the very early stages of your blogging career.
That’s why you better stick with the specific, narrow niche, rather than a broad one.
Let me break it down:
What’s an example of a broad niche?
Cars.
What’s a narrow niche?
BMW.
See where’s this going?
Remember the example we discussed earlier?
Who is more likely to become your loyal reader?
- A person who is interested in reading about cars in general and randomly came over an article about a certain brand on a blog about cars in general.
- A person who is very interested in BMW in particular and found a blog that has tons of content about that brand?
I think you know the answer.
“This blog is so for me”
So here’s the advice for beginners – Try to target a specific community of people rather than a broad one.
The additional plus is that you will face way less competition.
Where To Start?
By this time, you already know that it’s important to choose a niche in advance.

The Most Important Factors
As I mentioned earlier, there is no need to go into the in-depth breakdown of the blog niche ideas that were mentioned earlier.
All of them are super popular, highly profitable and marketable.
You can check them in Google trends, social media platforms, Amazon etc.
But, as I said… No need to do so. I did the homework for you.
Now,
There are a couple of things you need to think about when you are thinking about choosing a blog niche:
- Content
- Marketing
- Monetization
And honestly… It’s all about your comfort-zone and priorities.
Let me break them down a bit and explain why they play the most crucial role in the process of choosing a blog niche.
Here’s a thing:
- A lot of people say that you should write about the topic you are interested in. (Cons – That topic might not be easily promotable, nor highly profitable.)
- Some people only care about potential income. (Cons – a lot of high-income topics are very complicated and demand certain knowledge & skills.)
- There’s a group of people who want to strictly stick to Pinterest and promote their content there. (Cons – Not all of the niches are popular on Pinterest.)
Is there THE MOST important factor?
Nope.
All of these factors matter and have their pros and cons.
Therefore the choice is highly individual.
Then how can you choose?
Do your research and combine the facts.
Content
You already have ideas. Go to google or Pinterest or any other platform and find the blogs that are writing about that particular blog topic.
Promotion
Got a favorite social platform you want to advertise your future blog at?
Go there and see which content is popular there.
Monetization
The short answer to this topic would be – There’s a monetization method for each one of the blog topic ideas we talked about above.
They vary from niche to niche.
It can be ads, products, service etc.
You can also use affiliate deals…
Go to this article to see all of the methods for an in-depth understanding of the options.
And there are a lot of ways to adopt those methods as well.
I talk a lot about them in my free blogging course for beginners that you can join.
You can see the general options for affiliate deals at:
- Amazon
- Clickbank
- Shareasale
Related: Affiliate marketing for beginners.
As you see, there are a lot of options in each and every one of these main decisive factors.
But…
The most important thing is that your niche has to meet all of your requirements to some degree.
Just think about all of these three factors, think of your priorities and try to find “the one” like this:
If everything went correctly, you have at least one blog niche idea that you like and fits your, comfort zone and general requirements.
How To Choose?
I hope that the method above left you with at least one niche idea that you like.
If it’s just one – Congratulations, you got a blog topic idea for your new blog!
In case you got a couple of ideas, it’s time to filter them out as well.
Now you should remember that the test you did, left you with ideas that are all good.
All of those blog niche ideas fit your comfort-zone and priorities at some degree.
And since it’s all up to you, you can just think of the one priority that matters the most!
- Content
- Marketing
- Monetization
Which one is it?
How To Make Sure You Got It Right
I hope that you picked a niche at this point.
In order to make sure that you got it all correctly, just ask yourself a couple of questions that matter to you like:
- Do I see myself writing about this topic for a long time from now?
- Do I have enough time for this?
- Am I going to enjoy this journey?
- Is this going to make my life better?
- Is it what I hoped for?
You know yourself better… Come up with your own questions as well.
And make sure to be honest!
Blogging for money is an amazing platform, so use it wisely and change your life for better!
Does everything look fine?
Let’s move on to the most important part.
The Final Step
I really hope that my method helped you to choose the perfect blog niche that you will never regret.
The tough part seems to be behind but now it’s time to make one final step that is the most important!
